Toothbrush Hygiene

Cleaning your teeth every day with a fresh, clean toothbrush can make a big difference to your oral health.

Tooth decay and gum disease are caused by tiny micro-scopic bacteria and these bacteria are swept off your teeth by your toothbrush when you clean your teeth; these bacteria are then left alive in the bristles of the toothbrush and in the hollow shaft of the removable head of an electric toothbrush where the bacteria form a stagnant residue.

Rinsing a toothbrush in running tap water doesn't remove or destroy those bacteria. So when you re-use your toothbrush, those same bacteria which cause tooth decay and gum disease, go back into your mouth.

In the home ...

The bathroom is the most germ-laden room in the house, and rinsing your toothbrush leaves micro-organisms alive and active - and cross infection becomes an issue in families or shared accommodation when several toothbrushes are stored in a single container; research has shown that infections can easily transfer from a toothbrush to the one next to it.

On holiday ...

When travelling abroad it is very important to protect your toothbrush from contamination. Tap water is often unsafe to drink, so it makes sense that you shouldn't rinse your toothbrush in tap water either. Brushtox will disinfect your toothbrush of the germs both in tap water and possible contamination from mosquitoes and crawling insects in the bathroom where you leave your toothbrush.

The oral story ...

Micro-organisms that have been found on toothbrushes that have not been cleansed with Brushtox are the bacteria which cause tooth decay and gum disease, along with some more serious infections such as the herpes simplex virus, oral thrush, gastro-enteritis and acute ulcerative gingivitis. Some bacteria and viruses (ie the common cold virus) can lead to upper respiratory infections, coughs, colds and sore throats.

Brushtox Specialist

Dr Peter Neal, BDS and Dr John Rippin, BDS, PhD, FRCPath, former Head of Oral Pathology at the University of Birmingham School of Dentistry, have gathered together research showing that within two days of use, a new toothbrush becomes infected with potentially disease producing bacteria, viruses and fungi, some of which remain alive and multiply on a toothbrush for hours and even days.

To combat this problem, Brushtox Antiseptic Toothbrush Cleanser has been developed by leading U.K. Dental Surgeons to combat toothbrush contamination and disinfect toothbrushes safely, quickly and effectively. Independent laboratory tests show that Brushtox kills 99% of all disease-producing bacteria, viruses and fungi.

The toothbrush bristles simply need to be thoroughly sprayed with Brushtox from a distance of 25mm and then left to dry, before and after use, then simply rinse away the dead bacteria, fungi and viruses.

Brushtox has a fresh peppermint fragrance, and is packaged in a handy-sized 100ml unbreakable sealed spray bottle that will provide approximately 60 days of individual twice-daily use.
